One of my all-time favorite Founding Fathers is a man by the name of Benjamin Franklin. He signed both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution while pursuing a career in invention, science and politics.

He was not a christian but many of his views and opinions were overtly religious and bible based. When Thomas Paine wrote "The Age of Reason", he sent a copy of the manuscript to his good friend, Benjamin Franklin.
The response Benjamin sent back I have linked here and encourage you to read what this supposedly "anti-christian,atheistic" Founding Father had to say.

Here is the letter

Do you know who the Hottentots were?

The term Hottentot was used to desribe a early 16th century civilization in southwestern Africa.
They were a backwards people with several "physical shortcomings".
Basicaly, they were savages or bushmen.
The term Hottentot is nowdays considered derrogatory.
