On this day

1945 - Around 30,000 U.S. Marines landed on Iwo Jima

where they began a month-long battle to take the island

from the Japanese in World War II.
This particular day in history is one that I hold very close to my heart having been very fascinated with it ever since I was a young boy. There are virtually endless accounts of heroism and self-sacrifice to be obtained from the study of this or most any other war account. If you have not seen Clint Eastwood's new movie " Flags of our Fathers" or read the book, I would encourage you to.

Your profile picture makes me feel like you've got me by the head and your winding up for a slap. Thats all.
